9 A.M.
The darkness of a nine a.m. solar eclipse can be experienced in many different ways… It is fifty years since the Holocaust has ended, but deep in the Austrian mountains, there resides a community of Jews who are still in the dark about that, thanks to the conniving scheme of an old-time Nazi family. Though the Wangels’ evil plot has been successful all these decades, when a frum housewife in Vienna, homesick for her family and lifestyle back in Eretz Yisrael, makes an innocuous request of her in-laws regarding a company decision, the entire charade finally begins to teeter… David: The “rebellious” son-in-law of irreligious Leo Sherer, political head of the Samson Lager community, David moves closer to Yiddishkeit and the frum segment of their community…all the while harboring a deep, dark, and dangerous secret. Binyamin: His assumption that his father had died of an injury is thrown into question upon discovering the word “murdered” written on his father’s headstone. When the big lie his community is living begins to reveal itself, Binyamin will do whatever it takes—even being labeled psychotic!— to free himself and his fellow Jews. Naomi: Binyamin’s sister, she is strong and principled, and the one her brother relies on to help carry out his dangerous plans. But when Binyamin gets into trouble, and suspicion falls on Naomi, their close relationship is in jeopardy… Elky: Gripped by an obsession with money, Elky works herself to the bone to earn as many “vouchers” as possible, even sacrificing her close friendship with Naomi for it. But in the Samson Lager community, where exactly does that get her? Through a brilliant plot, realistic characters, and her flair for out-of-the-box drama, bestselling author Esther Rapaport weaves a fiction novel that reads like it really happened. Packed with edge-of-your-seat suspense, 9 A.M. is a story that will grip you from the first page until the very last. By Esther Rapaport
