"And my covenant shall be in your flesh as an eternal covenant" (Genesis 17:13). The mitzvah to circumcise boys at eight days old is perhaps the oldest in the Jewish tradition. Although practiced by cultures throughout the world, circumcision has unique significance for Jews as a physical mark of God's living promise to the Jewish people.
