When Miri’s mother is hospitalized for an extended stay, Miri is sent to England to stay with caring, but “different” relatives. Her “temporary” home is with an aunt and uncle and their warm, loving and sizable family. Miri, an only child, is quite overwhelmed by the constant goings-on in this new environment which bustles with children and activity. There are moments of fun as well as difficulties as the tide of life sweeps over her. Will she be accepted by the girls in her new school? Will her homesickness and grouchy disposition ever disappear? Only the seashell and its secret show her how to triumph over the “Grump” and all the other problems that seek to dampen her English sojourn.
