To Heal the Soul was written by Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Shapira, an inspiring and gifted twentieth-century rebbe who lived in pre-Holocaust Poland, lived through three years in the Warsaw Ghetto, and with its liquidation was moved to Treblinka, where he died in November of 1943.
